Conceptual Design Transition Planning

When storyboarding or planning something out its best to always start on something paper based such as a notepad or sketch book, this allows me to draw up any quick ideas I have and to create a very rough and quick couple of minute ideas I have and sketch them out straight away, adding a few notes to each stage to show and explain my thought process. My first thoughts were to have an animation that showcases a few examples of how to travel sustainably with the animation ending with a meaningful message.

Once I had a clearer idea of how I wanted my animation to play out I created a digitalised storyboard on Adobe Illustrator and planned out the keystones of the animation. Doing this is useful as it gives a clearer vision of how the final animation will look as the assets I drew out in illustrator can be imported and used within Adobe Animate so the final animation wouldn’t be far off from how it looks above. My original idea for this animation was for it to begin with it having a person walking in the middle of the road, however this is something that may not actually make it into the final animation as the person would only be on screen for about 2-3 seconds and creating a walk cycle and have them moving out of frame in that short time may look a bit weird as it would mean they would have to move off screen extremely fast which would make the animation look a bit unnatural. As the animation is intended for a younger audience I decided to avoid including lots of text or information as it would only confuse the viewer and also cramming in a large amount of information in such a short animation would only cause frustration and confusion. The style of the animation is more cartoony and child like to keep it similar to other animations based in the younger target audience range.

For the conceptual design transition my idea is for the animation to zoom in on the energy symbol on the bus and then zoom in on and and a fade from the first scene to the second scene in the animation which would turn the energy logo into a star in space which then zooms out to reveal the Earth. My thought process/ idea behind this is that it creates a link between using the correct energy and transport methods and the planet and using these methods can help create a better and safer environment and planet for the future and to help protect the Earth overall. The assets in the animation are all mostly green too as green energy is energy that is used that causes no harm to the environment so making the vehicles and bikes and so on green shows using them is sustainable and doesn’t harm the environment.
