For inspiration and ideas for my website I looked on the web for a few websites that included either a form of a timeline or something on the history of design.
This is a site I came across when researching the site had a timeline along the bottom as seen in the image that was interactive and allowed you to slide it across to go along the years of the timeline, but when trying to do this it was quite laggy and didn’t work very well, so whilst it was a good idea the execution wasn’t great. Also by laying the website out in a way that you scroll across it give the site quite and empty feeling as there was nothing beneath it except links to others sites and also above the timeline there isn’t nothing inside. The site is also filled with ads so doesn’t give a pleasant experience.

The second site I found I felt was a lot more professional as it had a colour scheme going throughout and had a more thought out layout, with this site you can scroll down the page and it will take you on a journey showcasing the history of design over time clearly explaining each time period and educating the reader. By been able to scroll down the website like this it helps you see more clearly the difference in design over time and also avoids that empty look that the first website had. This site is also ad free which gives even more of a pleasurable experience. Another thing I like about this page is on the right hand side they have added a percentage widget that as you scroll down goes up to tell you how far along the timeline you are. The colour palette the website uses is nice too, leaving the background white and having the text black leaves a clean and easy reading experience and then having the headers and subtitles in the red colour helps separate it and show they are more important bits of information such as the name and time period of a pacific design style. The headers/ title of the website at the top makes it very clear what the website is about and what it’s trying to achieve, this is something that wasn’t done very well in the first website that looked as though it was made with no care.
