Collaborative Workshop

For this collaborative workshop our idea was to turn the phrase “touch grass” into a positive campaign encouraging people to get outdoor more. The phrase is usually something that is used negatively and more of an insult as it is typically something a person says to another person if they play a game too much.

For this collaborative task we agreed that i would do the illustration side for the posters and Curtis would do the photography part for the background, the idea was to have a hand touching what would be a “pretty” landscape in the background and to create a series of these. These posters would then have phrases and messages on them telling people the benefits of going outdoors and encouraging them to do it more often.

To keep track of where we are both at we created a Figma page where we could both upload and work on the task at the same time and so we could leave feedback and add notes for one another once we posted something on there. We also kept in touch over Discord messaging making sure were both up to date and explain the idea to one another a little more.

For the design we chose the use of a large bold text, this was done in order to create a clear emphasis to the viewer as a the large text helps draw the viewers eye so that the message can be sent first. This also builds a visual hierarchy and also the choice of a size and colours helps creating a contrast to the details in the background. The aim was for the message to be kind of thrown at the user which the large font size helps achieve that. When it came to using colour we decided to stick with a lighter font with the use of white text and also featured a light green text, this was done in order to help separate each component of the design and create a contrast. We used the colour green predominantly as this colour was used to symbolise the outdoors, mostly grass and greenery and to showcase that’s what can be seen when actually going outdoors and seeing the world, which is the message we’re trying to send.
