My approach for the 2024 Freedom Festival would be to create something that would take people on a tour around the whole of Hull and go through the history of it, and to promote the event through multiple media so that it reaches as much people as possible and to design it in a way that represents the different parts of Hull.
To begin with, the website will be like a mixture of the websites I researched as I would like to have a place that has everything you’d need to know about the festival and also Hull. The website would be created with the same vibrant colours that can be seen within the festival to give it that same energy to give people a sense of excitement, the website would include all the information you’d need about the festival such as tickets, locations, news, history, as well as places to eat, famous landmarks of the city and so on. I would also implement something like the app/ webpage I found that allows you to plan out your day adding the events you want to see in the festival to your calendar. With each different page I could use a different colour scheme that reflects the city, for example if I were to create a page on Hull City I would design it in the colours of the team which is black and amber similar to how the Hull City app and web page have been designed.
To promote the event I would create a a paper based item such as an information leaflet that includes all the information similar to the web page, this would be for those that don’t have access to the web. I would then create a social media app/ online ad to reach maybe younger audiences who use social media a lot more, and then could create merchandise that promotes the event that could be sold at places such as sporting events. For example if sold at the KCOM Stadium the merch could be in the colours of Hull City Football Club which is black and amber or black and white for Hull FC been the rugby, and if sold at Craven Park could be red and white for Hull KR. The merchandise could include all famous landmarks of Hull such as The Deep, the stadiums, the Humber Bridge, Hull University and more to celebrate and show off the history and culture of the city.
The logo could again either include a few landmarks or could be created with the colour scheme of a few of them like the black and amber of Hull City and black and white of Hull Fc, or create an animation of a logo that includes those locations.
Creating a website that celebrates the history of Hull more will be an effective decision as I believe it will make a lot more people think positively towards the Freedom Festival. Hull has often been a place that people from outside the city have viewed negatively and have often mocked and looked down upon. With my approach, having a website that looks at the history of the city and celebrating it will bring the people of the city together more and perhaps may make them proud to be from Hull, also this could also give people from outside the city a different view and giving the city a better reputation overall, which with the Festival been exclusive to the city of Hull I feel is important to do that. To further do this I feel it will be important to create a social network, and so to do this I will incorporate things such as links to social media pages or YouTube videos similar to the sites I have researched. This is because social media is a big part of life in the modern day and having a place where people can comment and share online is important as it will help the festival further reach a larger audience. Also having links the social media helps digital communication, allowing potential customers and so on the communicate through the use of technology and be used as a tool to further spread things like news, information and other important things about the festival.
