The Idea:
The idea of this web page is to be a rolling webpage that displays the change of design overtime whilst showcasing how the styles of design throughout time can still be used in a modern and contemporary way by creating either a web page or modern companion app in those styles, whilst also teaching/ showing the people who view my website how it can be done and also educating them on each of the styles shown.
Defining the problem space:
I can use the Four W’s (who, what, where, why) as a method of finding the problem space by looking at things from their perspective and then use that as a shield against making my web page in a poor way and it creating more of a problem for the user.
Below I will show some examples:
Who: A undergraduate graphic design student. What: struggling to find a website that goes through the history of design with everything on one site. Where: A student at home who is trying to work on their assignment but are becoming agitated. Why: becoming stressed as they are having to look on multiple websites to find what they want, wants to find a site that isn’t crammed with text.
Based on this I know I need to create a site that has multiple different styles and examples of design throughout time and not styles that are too similar to one another, to have some variety, and also to not have large amounts of text.
Who: A graphic design teacher. What: wants to find a website showcasing art throughout time with a clear timeline. Where: In their office trying to find this website, but finding it hard to find a clear and easy to follow webpage. Why: They want to find a website that isn’t too complex and is easy to use so they can show it to their students and allow them to use it for inspiration on their work.
Based on this I know I need to create an easy to follow site that is easy to follow and navigates clearly to the user of how to use the website and has a clear timeline to follow.
